"Upskirt" refers to the place under the skirt. It is characterized by lookup up under the skirt as well as the desired or unwanted lifting of the skirt. Women often deliberately do not wear panties under their skirts and combine their voyeurism with short skirts. They are aware that others can see underneath them and be turned on.

In some cases, it also refers to a situation where photographs or videos are taken from an angle from which one can see under the skirts or dresses of women and young girls. Records taken without their knowledge are referred to as creepshots.
